How To Identify Your Keyword Or Keyword Phrase - SEO Tactics

How to identify your Keyword or Keyword Phrase. That was something I had never really thought about. Originally, I thought design a web page, buy a domain name, upload the HTML to my domain and I was done. But when reality sank in and I could not find my site within Search Engines it was then that I ascertained that I was still missing something.

That something was a central part of building a site.

Here is what happened. I found this website template that really impressed me. It was not too graphical and it seemed to match my personality. So I bought it and I tweaked it. After I uploaded it. I sat back and waited for businesses to recognize me in my local area. Well it never happened.

I have been laboring with web pages for over ten years. But the fact that I knew HTML did not make me a crack shot at getting my own web site seen by Search Engines. In fact, this became a pretty good test of my knowledge and how I thought the Internet worked.

At the central core, I guess I knew that Search Engines needed to spider my site but I somehow fell into some predisposed notion that they would find me. Boy was I wrong.

Now after refocusing my perspective I discovered Keywords and how influential they were.

My site dealt with “Web Design”. So after performing a search on Google I found that there were over 862 million web pages dealing with my two Keyword Phrase. After checking page upon page and not finding my site I began to agonize over “What was I missing?”

Then I found the some new keywords to study; “Search Engine Optimization” or SEO.

After reading and studying, I began to realize what I was not doing. While my site looked great and had everything. The problem was that it was not optimized for Search Engines; my site was “Sandboxed” or lost in the void of the Internet. The chances that it would be seen by anyone was pretty remote.

Since, my Keyword Phrase “web design” was in a very large body of web pages and it represented a broad sector of an industry I divided the entire 862 million pages by a single keyword that localized my site. I added my city “Lynchburg” to my Keyword Phrase; now it reads “Lynchburg Web Design”.

By adding that one word resulted in the number to drop from 862 million web pages to 669 thousand web pages. While this is still a large number it will be easier to float higher in the Search Engine rankings called result pages or SERPs.

So now you know my Keyword Phrase.
